Hvem var Eugene Ejike Obiora?
Scenography for Nordic Black Theater, Oslo 2026
Director: Cliff A. Mustache
This performance, first staged in 2008, is based on the Obiora case - a fatal incident that forced Norway to look at itself. The outcome is known, but responsibility, causes and learning are still unclear. Through documentary and political theatre, the performance refuses to contribute to silence or simplification.
The play focuses on the exercise of state power: the police's use of coercion, public institutions' encounters with vulnerable people and systems' lack of responsibility when something goes wrong. Who is protected when mistakes are not acknowledged, and who pays the price?
Eugene Ejike Obiora is not presented as a symbol, but as a human being with life, history and dignity. The performance is not just about one tragedy, but about structures and power relations that still exist.
The work is based on thorough research and conversations with those affected. The performance does not provide easy answers, but promotes a clear demand: Transparency is not optional in a democracy. Trust must be earned. Eugene Ejike Obiora shall not be forgotten.
