HOME IS...

Art residency
at Sigrids Stue, Gellerup/Aarhus, Denmark 2026

This site-specific installation was created in collaboration with Sigrids Stue and local residents.

The artwork can be viewed at the apartment block located at Inger Christensens Gade 39–45, Gellerup, 8220 Brabrand.
A total of 102 curtains have been installed on the balconies of this otherwise nearly empty building. Some of the curtains feature text in Arabic, English, and Danish, reflecting the question: WHAT IS A HOME? The wind blowing along the building creates movement throughout the installation.
The project was realized in collaboration with Sigrids Stue and involved local residents, who helped sew the curtains and craft the words and phrases featured in the artwork.

HOME IS… will be on display until the end of October 2026.

The work HOME IS... is supported by Aarhus Municipality's Art Council, Gellerup Fællesråd, Sigrids Stue - Art Platform and others.
Thanks to Brabrand Boligforening, dept. 4 Gellerupparken, Gellerup Art Factory, Gellerup Bilbliotek, residents and interested parties for permits, premises, support and help during the work with the project and the work HOME IS...

This installation is about Home.

I Quote: Amin Maalouf,  “A new place becomes home when difference is respected” - Acceptance makes it possible to open oneself to the new environment without abandoning one’s origins. When someone is rejected or treated as foreign, they are more likely to protect their separateness rather than develop a sense of belonging.

In other words Acceptance brings Acceptance

This installation emphasize connection, participation and acceptance. The text on textile you see on some pieces is generated from a workshop I organized last spring, where participants painted what is Home for them. It is also a continuation of a body of work where I have been softening accidental monuments that were built to be something, and then for some reason became something else - through textile dancing with the wind these buildings are given a new meaning.

Thank you to: Sigrids Stue, Grete, Maja, Espen, Lars, Mohammed, Anna, Atma, Marie-Cecilie. To the Local Board, Especially Helle, Mikael and Ezz el Din . To Bruno and Hanan who helped in the production without hesitation. To all who participated in the workshop Home is…
Biggest thanks to Louay and Khawla who accepted this installation on their Home! and last but not least thanks to the sky for giving double rainbows just after puting up the last piece.
